What is Yearbook Class?

Yearbook is an elective class, available to students in grades 9 through 12, and it provides ½ course credit. However, there is significant “after school” work, and Yearbook requires dedication and commitment. When choosing electives, if a student wishes to join the Yearbook staff, he or she must complete an application, including recommendations from two teachers. The work is demanding, but the “perks” are excellent! With the help of our publisher, Jostens, we produce a professional quality yearbook, and we work hard to keep the price reasonable so that every Caldwell student can have one!

What Does a Yearbook Staff Member Do?

There are several types of jobs on the Yearbook Staff.

• The Editor and Assistant Editor work closely with the Advisor to oversee production of the entire book. They are responsible for supervising and approving theme, pages, ads, and every part of yearbook creation.
• The Photography staff (headed by the Photography Manager) is responsible for making sure that excellent pictures are taken at every significant school event (including “everyday normal” pictures). All yearbook staff members take pictures, but the Photography staff sorts, orders, and makes sure that we have great pictures for the yearbook.
• The Business Manager oversees ad sales and yearbook sales.
• Staff members will be responsible for different pages of the yearbook, designing the page layout, coordinating with photographers for pictures, working with the Editors for consistency with the rest of the book. Staff members also work together to create the theme and color scheme for the book. Staffers are expected to sell ads and assist in selling and distributing yearbooks.
• All of our work is electronic – digital pictures are placed using Adobe’s InDesign, then electronically submitted to our publisher. The process is highly computerized, and staffers become excellent desktop publishers.
